It's all About Me - Part II

An update on the latest with me.

Blogging Workshopsncw_logo-small

First, I'm partnering with the Northern Colorado Writers and teaching two blogging courses - Blogging Basics Saturday, June 21 and Beyond Blogging Basics Saturday, August 23. Both workshops will be at the Windsor (CO) Recreation Center. (Windsor is about 1 hour north of Denver.) If you live in Northern Colorado or Southern Wyoming and are interested in learning about how to blog or do more with your blog, sign up!

New Partnerships

momcentral(Drum roll please...) I've signed on with Mom Central Consulting as a social networking consultant. I am thrilled to be working with Stacy DeBroff and her awesome team of mom bloggers at Mom Central and Mother Talk.

Publicity

On July 30, I'll be a guest on the Motherhood Uncensored podcast. I'm a big fan of Kristen Chase and her Motherhood Uncensored blog. In fact, her podcast is one of the few I listen to regularly. (I also work with Kristen doing reviews for The Parent Bloggers Network.)  I'll be speaking as the My Readable Feast blogger on books to get kids ready for school as well as how to combine reading books with family activities like cooking and going to the zoo.

Download May 2008 Bloghology

The May 2008 issue of Bloghology is out. You can download the PDF of the report at Search for Blogging. Not only does it feature an interview with yours truly, but a terrific article by my blogging mentor, Yaro Starak.

Finally, I will be appearing in my local paper, the Daily Times-Call - Carbon Valley edition's "Spotlight on Business" this week. (Here's the link: ‘Mommy blogger’ has found outlet for her writing.)

It's a busy summer so far!

The Mommy Chronicles radio show

MommychroniclesI was interviewed on The Mommy Chronicles today (Friday, February 17). The show, The Scoop on School Options, discussed what educational choices are best for your child - private, public, charter or homeschooling. I was there with my "president of the board of directors of a public charter school" hat on trying my best to educate people about the charter school movement here in Colorado.

The most exciting thing? The TODAY Show filmed hosts Sara and Stephanie as they did the radio show from their homes. Then they'll appear on the TODAY Show on February 27 to promote their book, The Mommy Chronicles: Conversations Sharing the Comedy and Drama of Pregnancy and New Motherhood, and their radio show.

The show usually has around 115,000 listeners. That number is increasing since they are now carried on Sirius Satellite Radio on a station called Lime. This has the potential to boost their numbers to a potential of 3 million listeners!

(The show is available as a podcast.)

Wmcoveroct05_2MOMS Group - Colorado Mom's Book Blog (pg. 22)

MOTHER's Book Bag is a new website and blog that helps moms connect via the Internet. Since its launch last Mother's Day by the national advocacy group Mothers Ought to Have Equal Rights, some 1,600 visitors have logged on to discover the best and latest offerings on the mothering bookshelf. The site also shares tips on how to start a book group in your community and what to discuss at meeting.

Anne-Marie Nichols, 40, a mom of two and MOTHERS Book Bag volunteer who runs the blog from her home in Firestone, Co., says, "Book clubs give mothers the rare opportunity to discuss the challenges they face." But what's truly special about Book Bag is that readers can have a dialogue with the authors and one another. To get in on the action, go to www.mothersbookbag.org.

Mothers of the world, unite!

0503momsI want to welcome everyone who found "A Mama's Rant" via today's Denver Post article, "Mothers of the world, unite!" or the companion article, "Blogs connect the moms."

For those of you who didn't see Colleen O'Connor's article, here's my part in it:

"The Feminine Mystique" jump-started the women's movement more than 40 years ago with its exposé on the discontent among American women over the tyranny of domesticity.

These days, many Gen-X and Gen-Y mothers are experiencing that same discontent.

"You become so absorbed in 'attachment parenting,' you put so much effort into it that you're lucky to get a shower," says Anne-Marie Nichols of Firestone, 40, who writes the newsletter for the national organization MOTHERS (Mothers Ought to Have Equal Rights.)

A former marketing copywriter, she's now full-time mom to two toddlers, and president of the board of directors of a charter school. She believes that her generation, unlike the one that came of age in the 1960s and '70s, has failed to create social change for women through political action.

"After a certain point you think, 'Who cares how people voted?' Your husband is yelling at you, there's no clean underwear, you didn't get to the store, and there are piles of laundry all over."
